The StaffingMaster Group, a staffing, recruiting and search firm, will open its office in Apple Valley Business Parkin Beavercreek. The 1,000-square-foot office, located at 1430 Oak Court, is scheduled to open this month. The office will employ between 10 and 15 people, making it the fifth-largest staffing company in the Dayton area, according to Dayton Business Journalresearch.
Wayne Vorris, a partner with StaffingMaster, said the company is looking to expand its footprint beyond northern Ohio, opening the Beavercreek office and an office in Kansas City in the next two months.
In the next three to five years, Vorris said plans call to have 10 to 15 offices across the country.
In Dayton, Vorris said he expects StaffingMaster to hit total yearly revenue of $2 million in the first year of operation. Currently, three employees are working for StaffingMaster in Dayton without a true office.
Vorris said StaffingMaster saw 100 percent growth last year and is targeted to do the same this year. The company currently employs a total of 25, with its second office in Toledo.
StaffingMaster specializes in serving the health care, automotive and emerging technologies industries, which includes the energy and alternative energy industries.
Outside of traditional staffing company services — such as contract staffing, direct placement, temporary placement and recruiting — StaffingMaster also offers a non-traditional, Internet-based service for talent acquisition. Called e-First, the program uses a combination of techniques to identify talent quickly, at a cost as low as $2,500.
The company selected Dayton for its third office because a number of talented recruiters have become available as other staffing companies have downsized or left the market, Vorris said.
The Mergis Group, a division of Florida-based Spherion Corp.and the fourth-largest staffing company in Dayton, closed its local operations in February. Vorris said he is looking to take advantage of the available talent.
He also said proximity to Wright-Patterson Air Force Basemakes Dayton a good choice for an office.
“We feel strongly about defense-related work for Wright-Patt and for suppliers that support the base,” he said.
StaffingMaster signed an 18-month lease with a five-year renewal option at Apple Valley, and showed interest in expanding in the business park, said Beth Gibbs, office property specialist with the Dayton office of Colliers Turley Martin Tucker.
Gibbs represented StaffingMaster and Tony Witt, Colliers Dayton office vice president, represented the owners.
Kathy Trautman, area manager for Manpower of Dayton Inc., said staffing companies have been helping companies deal with the huge influx of résumés as unemployment has climbed. She said companies will post a position and get 250 résumés, with only two being remotely qualified.
“When we post a job for a nursing assistant or a medical tech, we get so many people,” Trautman said.
More people looking to fill the same position can mean an overload of work for companies with small or no human resources departments, which is where staffing companies can step in to help. Trautman said up until the middle of the first quarter, health care has been the busiest industry for staffing companies.
